PLAYGROUND RUBBER FLOORING
Several types of rubber flooring are available for kids' playgrounds, each with its own advantages, installation process, and maintenance needs. Common options include poured-in-place rubber, interlocking rubber tiles, rubber mulch, and rubber grass mats.
Poured-in-place (PIP) rubber
PIP is a seamless rubber surface often used in commercial and public playgrounds because of its durability and ability to create custom designs. It is typically made with a base layer of shock-absorbing SBR rubber and topped with a layer of colored EPDM rubber for weather and UV resistance.
Interlocking rubber tiles
These tiles offer a modular, durable, and low-maintenance option for both commercial and residential playgrounds. They are available in various thicknesses and colors and are relatively easy to install.
Rubber mulch
This is a loose-fill surface made from recycled tires, offering excellent shock absorption. It is a popular choice for budget-conscious projects but requires more maintenance than unitary surfaces.
Rubber grass mats
These are interlocking rubber mats with a grid-like pattern that allows grass to grow through them. They are designed to be placed directly over existing grass and are often used under equipment like swings to prevent wear and tear.
